Conventional coring is a traditional method of taking samples from bottom-hole formations. This method is still the most commonly practiced method in the petroleum industry. The selection of conventional core bits Drill It provides are of the highest quality alloyed steel which allow for high penetration rate and a longer life for the bit.

The T6-101 is built for a T6 Core barrel. The T6 core barrel is also a double tube core barrel with the inner tube mounted on bearings. It has a sturdier design making it more adapted for working in all types of terrains. The diameter is 101mm or 4 Inches wide and produces an inner core of 79mm (3.1 Inches) in dimeter.

This bit is part of the Hawk 7 Series. The Hawk 7 bits are designed with the diamond grade partially exposed from the bit matrix, making them best suitable to tackle medium rock formations such as Soft Sandstone, Sandy Shale, Claystone, Limestone and Siltstone.

Our Hawk range of coring drill bits are Set To Liner models, meaning the casing string that does not extend to the top of the wellbore, but instead is anchored or suspended from inside the bottom of the previous casing string. There is no difference between the casing joints themselves.

Selecting The Right Bit

Please refer to the following graphs to establish if the bit you are purchasing is right for the job.. The following graphs demonstrate what series of core drill bit and what drill bit profile would be appropriate for differing rock formations.

Hawk Coring Bits

The Drill-It collection of Hawk coring tools are a range of premium coring drill bits that are specifically engineered for Set to Liner usage. Designed with the user in mind, they are capable of meeting a wide variety of challenging rock drilling conditions faced around the world.

The advantage to the well designer of a liner is a substantial savings in steel, and therefore capital costs. To save casing, however, additional tools and risk are involved. The well designer must trade off the additional tools, complexities and risks against the potential capital savings when deciding whether to design for a liner or a casing string that goes all the way to the top of the well (a "long string"). The liner can be fitted with special components so that it can be connected to the surface at a later time if need be.
